The Department was established in the year 1991 initially with only B.Sc. The M.Sc course in Microbiology was introduced in the year 2004 making a remarkable growth within a short period of time. The department has 13 erudite, young, efficient and very enthusiastic staff members who maintain a fine balance of being a mentor, a teacher and counselor. The Department regularly arranges intercollegiate competitions, workshops and conferences at the University, State and National level. A positive symbiotic relationship has been developed with Industries and Research Institutes through signing of several Memorandums of Understanding, Collaborative research and Linkages. The staff members are actively involved in research and undertake projects sponsored by BCUD and UGC. Over the last 30 years, the department has grown steadily and has always strived for Excellence in Academics, co and extracurricular activities.The aim of the department is to ensure holistic development in students. The students under the able guidance of their mentors have won laurels in academics— a total of 13 students have been awarded ranks among the first 10 by Savitribai Phule Pune University. Of these 13, two are gold medals and three silver medals. The students and Staff have presented research papers and won gold and silver medals in national and international conferences. Last but not the least our students have also won many prizes in annual gatherings. The Alumni are placed in national and multinational companies and research institutes in India and abroad.
