The department was set up in 1991 with the inception of the college. Currently, Physics is offered as a general subject upto the second year of the B.Sc. programme. The facilities at the department include well-lit, spacious and well-maintained laboratories with a separate Dark room. It is stocked with instruments and devices such as Optical Bench, CRO’s, furnace, sound meters etc. necessary for practical coursework. The labs are also equipped with ICT aids to enable interactive lectures. The faculty at the department comprises two teaching staff members with an experience of over 25 years. The additional support staff assists with the day-to-day functioning of the department. The staff members are engaged in active research and have published papers in various UGC approved journals. Their research work has also been exhibited in oral and poster presentations at various national and international conferences. The department organizes various curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as lectures, seminars/workshops, study tours, quiz competition etc. The students' response towards the study of Physics has been encouraging. It has been visible in the increasing student strength each year. The department has recently conducted a guest lecture on “Sinking Cities” and “Evolution of Physics” by eminent speakers underlining the basic principles of science that are strongly connected with our daily lives. A three day workshop on “Wow and How – An Exploration into Physics” was organized as a Teachers Training programme. The teachers had an interactive session through various demonstrations. Another workshop on “Solar Lamp Making” was successfully conducted by the department. This involved assembling the solar lamp kit by the students. The event was preceded by a lecture on sensitizing the students on the current climate scenario and renewable energy sources. The kit was assembled and tested in the laboratory. A state level seminar was organized jointly with the Department of Botany on “Intellectual Property Rights”. Expert faculty from CSIR (NCL) addressed the students and teachers. [Read more]

Event Name: Workshop on Assembling of Solar Lamp Event Incharge : Dr. Naseem Deshpande Date: 2020-01-18 Venue : Department of Physics Event Details
A solar lamp making workshop was jointly organized by Department of Physics on January 18th 2020. There were 50 students who actively participated and assembled the kit successfully. The effort was to inculcate the importance about renewable energy with special focus on solar energy. The workshop started at 10.00 am with a session on “Introduction and Sensitization” by Dr Naseem Deshpande. She educated the students about the current climatic scenario and various factors responsible for climate change. This was followed by introduction to Electricity and Energy and why solar energy is better than conventional energy sources. On successful completion of the workshop the students did realize the importance of using alternate energy sources and assured to use solar energy, wherever possible.
Event Name: Teachers Training Workshop "Wow and How -An Exploration into Physics” Event Incharge : Dr. Naseem Deshpande Date: 2020-01-06 Venue : Green Galaxy, Azam Campus Event Details
A three days Workshop "Wow and How -An Exploration into Physics' was organized by the Physics Academy, Azam Campus, Pune from 6 to 8 Jan 2020 at CESS, the Green Galaxy. 30 science teachers, of class I to X, from various schools of azam campus, actively participated in the Workshop. Basic concepts in Physics from different topics like force, pressure, sound, electricity, magnetism, optics, etc were discussed through various hands on activities/demonstrations. The material required for this is inexpensive and can be obtained easily. Thus it is possible for teachers to incorporate these activities in classroom teaching.
