The Department of Environmental Science was set up in the year 1994 to make students aware of the scope for Environmental Science, which is an emerging field. The department has distinguished itself as the first to offer Environmental Science as a special subject at the third year level. The department boasts of a well-equipped laboratory, qualified staff, a departmental library and 24-hour fiber internet connectivity. Apart from academics, the department undertakes several extra and co-curricular activities to create awareness and instil practical knowledge about the environment. These include organizing seminars, workshops, competitions and environmental film festivals. Eco-camps, study tours, and study visits (industrial) National Parks & Sanctuaries across Maharashtra are planned to promote a better understanding of the subject and to closely view the relationship between man and the environment. The students are motivated and guided to undertake projects on various environmental issues in Pune city. Experts from different institutions are invited as resource persons to deliver lectures. With reference to the University Circular No. 286 of 2004, “Environmental Awareness” is a compulsory course for the students of S.Y.B.A., B.Com, B.Sc, & B.Sc. Computer science.
